Pheryglon Gemau ar lein /
Online Games Danger 13.02.15
Mae wedi dod i’n sylw gan riant ynglyn a pheryglon gemau ar lein sy’n cael eu lawr lwytho gan ein disgyblion. Bu i un o’r disgyblion lawrlwytho’r gem ‘Clash of Clans (9 oed ac i fyny). Yn anffodus, buodd linc i wefan ‘live chat’ a buodd sgyrsiau anweddus tuag at un o’n disgyblion. Wedi i’r rhieni fod yn ymwybodol o hyn fe wnaethant gyfeirio’r achos at yr heddlu- y cam cywir i wneud. Taer erfyniaf arnoch i fod yn wyliadwrus ac i fonitro’r ‘apps’ sy’n cael eu defnyddio gan eich plant.
Gyda gwyliau hanner tymor wedi cyrraedd ac efallai mwy o amser i blant ymddiddori yn eu ‘tabledi’ megis ipads da chi byddwch yn ofalus. Gall blant yn uniongyrchol neu yn anuniongyrchol ddod ar draws gemau neu rwydweithiau anweddus. Anogwn yn gryf i blant beidio cymerYd rhan mewn sgyrsiau ar lein neu ‘live chat forums’ gan na wyddent efo pwy y maent yn cyfathrebu.
Diolch am eich cydweithrediad yn hyn o beth. Yn gywir, Dyfan Phillips PENNAETH
It has come to my attention from a parent today the dangers posed by some online games downloaded by pupils onto their tablets/Ipads etc at home. An unfortunate incident happened recently that involved a pupil at home innocently downloading an appropriate age game (Class of Clans age 9+) but was linked to a ‘live chat room’. The content of the discussion to one of our pupils inappropriate and was rightly referred to the police by the parents after discovery.
Can I stress the importance of reminding pupils not to engage in ‘live chat room’ discussion as they do not know with who they are communicating or with the nature of conversations that might follow. With developments in games technology increasing at such pace, it is vital that parents are aware of the dangers that some games may pose, even if indirectly. With half term holidays here, I advise parents to actively monitor new ‘apps’ which are downloaded. Parents need to be aware which games their children are playing in order to protect them from possible harm.
Thank you for your anticipated co-operation. Regards, Dyfan Phillips HEAD TEACHER

Dydd Santes Dwynwen / St.Dwynwen's Day Celebration
St.Dwynwen's Day. pupils of Ysgol y Llys dressed up in Prince and Princesses costumes in celebration of St.Dwynwen's Day. (The Welsh patron Saint of Lovers Day). The pupils were invited to dress up to raise the profile of the important Welsh cultural event. The PTA also arranged a St.Dwynwen's Day disco.
It is vital that we actively promote the Welsh language and culture not only to our pupils but also to the wider school community. We are extremely proud of our Welsh heritage and are thankful to the support we receive not only from pupils but also form parents.

2013 Summer Reading Challenge organised by Denbighshire Library Service
Ysgol y Llys pupils gained success in the 2013 Summer Reading Challenge organised by Denbighshire Library Service. Medals were handed out in a special school assembly to 111 school pupils- a school record! To gain medals, pupils had to visit the local library a minimum of three times and read 6 books during the period.
Mr Phillips said:
'I'm so proud to see so many pupils obtain the medals. The key to accessing a full and enriched curriculum is through developing improved literacy skills with reading being the bedrock of this.
It's great seeing the children so enthusiastic about reading. We hope this continues and that the pupils and parents continue to use the excellent facilities in our local libraries. Da iawn bawb!'

New series of CHILD GENIUS - searching for children and families to take part.
New series of Child Genius - searching for children and families to take part. We at production company Wall To Wall (makers of Who Do You Think You Are?, Long Lost Family and The People's Medal), are writing to all UK schools to let the Heads know that the hit documentary series Child Genius is back... and we are once again looking for pupils and their families to take part.
Schools played a tremendous part last year in spreading the word to parents, and we were delighted by the sheer volume of numbers that came forward.
The new series will once again feature competition rounds devised in association with MENSA andwill cover various topics from maths, spelling, non-verbal reasoning and more. This sits beside documentary filming exploring each child's passions and interests, attitudes to parenting, approaches to education and what it means to be a high-achieving child in Britain today.
We aim to celebrate the extraordinary lives of gifted children and their families. We want to make the case for academic achievement as something that deserves to be applauded.
In the previous series of Child Genius, many of the children forged invaluable new friendships and looked forward to the chance to test themselves on a range of subjects in competition each week. 11 year old winner Shrinidhi described taking part as "the best experience of her life".
We are currently inviting applications from bright young children (with the consent of their parents/guardians) to take part in the series. We are looking to feature children between the ages of five and twelve years, born between 1st September 2001 and 31st August 2008.
We are hoping that this project will appeal to children in Gifted and Talented programmes. We are also keen to attract children with potential who have not yet had a chance to shine - perhaps more divergent minds, SEN with untapped potential or creative spirits. T
he purpose of this letter is to ascertain if you would be willing to forward on our details and details of the series to the parents of your pupils.
Given the ages of the children we hope to involve in the series, we are keen to reassure you that we take our obligations as responsible programme-makers very seriously.
We recognise our duty of care to all our contributors and the particular additional responsibilities involved in filming with young children in this environment.
For this reason, no application from any child will be accepted without full and informed parental/guardian consent. At least one parent/guardian will accompany their children to all stages of the casting process and, in the event that the child is invited to appear in the series, to all filming. All filming will be arranged to take place outside of school hours.
We will have a team of specialist advisers off-screen, including a child psychologist and education experts such as representatives of MENSA. Their role will be to provide support and guidance prior to and during the production of the series.
We will be running a casting website where parents can view information on both Wall To Wall and the series and can provide us with evidence of their consent to their child taking part in the application process. Children can then take a trial test and fill out an application form. The site (www.childgenius2014.co.uk) will run until 27 December 2013.

On Monday, November 19th, 2012, 14 members of the School Council at Ysgol y Llys visited the Town Council offices and Mayor's Chamber to learn about the town council work in supporting the Community. The children took part in mock debates and met the Mayor and Councillor Paul Penlington (also a parent and Governor at Ysgol y Llys). The children thoroughly enjoyed the visit and hope to implement many of the ideas in their own meetings at school.
Madeleine Duncalf (Year 6) said:
"It was a very enjoyable experience and helped me understand a little bit better of how the Council works. I would love to be a Councillor when I grow up and support Prestatyn."
Alyssa Upton (Year 6) said:
"It was fun going to visit the mayor. He asked me sit in the chair of office and I had control over the debate. The rest of the Council listened to me. It was great."

Cofeb Llywelyn / Llywelyn the Last Monument 12.11.12
On Monday, November 12th, 2012 the School council members at Ysgol y Llys organised a cake stall at Ysgol y Llys. The purpose of the staff was to raise funds to repair the monument to Llywelyn the Last (c. 1223 – 11 December 1282) at Cilmeri, near Builth Wells which had been in the national press last month due to its state of disrepair.
The children felt it was a monument of national importance to Wales and should be looked after well and should display the national flag of Wales.
The pupils wrote to the Plaid Cymru AM for North Wales, Mr Llyr Huws Gruffydd and invited him to Ysgol y Llys to receive the donation.
Mr Huws accepted the donation of £100 and will ensure it is passed on to the relevant History Associations who work to promote Welsh history and culture to ensure the monument is improved.
Mr Gruffydd also took part in a question and answer session with whole school pupils and gave a overview of work as AM in promoting Wales and in working for the people of Wales. The children thoroughly enjoyed the session and learnt a lot about the work of our Assembly members
The response from pupils and parents for cakes was overwhelming. It was very much appreciated by the School Council members, pupils and staff.
The children raised £136.
Sara Jones and Alyssa Upton, Year 6 School Council Members said:
''It was great raising money to remember Llywelyn ein Llyw Olaf. The cake stall was an enormous success. We were also very pleased that Mr Llyr Huws Gruffydd AM visited the school to take part in our activities. We learnt that he travels down to Cardiff to the Senedd by train and that he is very proud of Wales and the Welsh language. He even told us that he supports Swansea City and Camarthen Town. Unfortunately, they lost 7-1 to Prestatyn FC this term!''
The head teacher, Dyfan Phillips said:
'' I'm proud of the children for organising this fundariser. At Ysgol y Llys, we take great pride in the national culture, history and traditions of Wales, and it was great to see the children embracing this fully. It was great that Mr Gruffydd could attend as it gave the pupils an insight into the work of our Assembly Members. I also thank the parents for supporting the initiative- a great effort!''

(A Health Challenge Wales Initiative).
12 pupils have been nominated from the school to implement the scheme. A local farm shop brings local produce to the school and the children bag items according to pre-placed orders. Currently the scheme targets school staff- this has proved very popular among staff as it contributed to their well being. Pre packed bags by the pupils, either fresh fruit or veg cost staff £3.00
The long term aim is to develop the scheme to include availability to parents.
The head teacher, Dyfan Phillips said:
"This initiative is a great scheme. It develops pupils sense of healthy eating, entrepreneurship and and a awareness of the local economy".
Madeleine Duncalf, Year 6 pupil and Joshua King, Year 5 Co-Op Members said:
"It teaches us the importance of co-operation and supporting local farmers. It also teaches us the value of money and how to spend wisely.

Many thanks to all who supported this year's Summer Fayre (held on Friday, June 15th, 2012). It was a lovely evening and great seeing the wider community coming together to support Ysgol y Llys.
We were also aided by the weather, which smiled upon Ysgol y Llys (following the torrential downpour which had preceded earlier on in the week.)
The Fayre raised a total of£1124 for the PTA- Funds which will be partly used to purchase new resources for the school library. A great effort- many thanks to you all!
Big thanks go to the PTA members who volunteer to organise the event every year. Members with whom without their hard work and dedication, there would be no Fayre.
It was great once again seeing the competition between the various units who battled it out again for the title of the Most Successful Stall. It was won this year (as in 2011!) by the Under 12 Unit.
There must be some attraction in the stall to 'wet Mr Rhys'- they took over £100 to soak the Deputy head teacher! Interesting to see staff, as well as parents and pupils queuing up for the privilege! Roll on next year's Summer Fayre!

Newyddion Hydref 2011
News October 2011
Last week, we had an improptu visit by a Ladies choir from Zambia who were in Wales on a journey to thank the original Christian Missionaries who travelled form Wales over a century ago to spread the word of God. The singing was marvellous and the school pupils also entertained the choir with Welsh songs culminating in a rousing rendition of the Welsh national anthem.
The Under 9 Unit children also recently visited Prestatyn library during Book Week to enjoy a presentation by the author Shoo Rayner. (author of books such as the Olympia series and the Ginger Ninja series). He talked about his experience as an author and also as an illustrator. The children thoroughly enjoyed the occasion and thanks go to the library service for organising the event.
Recently, a new welcome sign was unveiled at Ysgol y Llys at the entrance to the Under 5 Unit. The work was commissioned by the Governing Body at Ysgol y Llys and allowed pupils to work with the artist Neil Dalrymple from Ruthin to create a mural depicting the surrounding area of Prestatyn. In the photograph, we have some children who took part together with the staff, Miss Hannah Andrews Roberts and Mrs Ceri Thomas.
Two pupils with the collection raised following the Ysgol y Llys Harvest Thanksgiving Service at Bethel Chapel, High Street Prestatyn on 13.10.11 The proceeds will go to purchase a water tank for disadvantaged children in Africa.

Many thanks to parents and the public for supporting our efforts to promote the Welsh culture in our community. Wouldn't it be great to see this being extended next year; inviting all local schools to participate in partnership with local businesses. AJD say a big 'Diolch' to Ysgol y Llys
Staff from the Administration of Justice Department in Prestatyn said 'Diolch yn fawr' to pupils and staff at a Prestatyn primary school for helping them to improve their Welsh language.
Head of department Julie Foster and Supervisor Michelle Richards headed to the school just before the end of term to personally thank all at Ysgol Y Llys and hand them a cheque for £100 as a further token of their gratitude.
For the past two to three years staff at AJD have been popping along to the school and joining in with the pupils in a bid to improve their Welsh language. To date, over 20 staff have benefited from the partnership.
Staff who attend the school usually work in pairs, their language skills are assessed and depending on their confidence level, they join the pupils from various year groups where they listen and speak to them.
“We have really appreciated all the help that the pupils and staff have given us,” said Julie Foster, “and the partnership has gone from strength to strength. Members of staff have progressed well with their studies and each of the participants have continued with higher level examinations.”
She added: “The cheque presented will be put towards buying some books for the school and we have also given a glass trophy which is to be presented yearly to the best Welsh language improver we know how challenging it can be!”
Commenting on the partnership, Head of Ysgol y Llys Dyfan Phillips said: “It's great for the children to see that the language is alive and exists outside the school walls. The partnership has also helped to develop school links within the community.”
